how are yall doing here on the dark side
i have a 1977 merc 500 or 50 .
after building carbs and changing stator and timer base
it runs good just dont know how to idle it up seems the only way is to adjust throttle cable can anyone run down the idle adjustment to me i havent worked on any of the old mercs just large rudes ,
i am currently looking for factory race xr6 with factory cle and light weight cowl thanks guys there was one on scream and fly but it sold

All is revealed in the service manual... The throttle cable should be set only AFTER the idle speed is set right. The idle speed adjustment is one of the screws on the port side of the powerhead. Don't know if you have a distributor engine or distributor-less engine. A serial number would have helped.

The corect sequence is:

Set timing pointer
set maximum timing advance
ensure carbs are both opening together
set carb pick-up timing
set idle speed and idle mixture
set throttle cable...
