Hey Old Timers

This one has me stumped. My neighbor has an old O.B. Motor that missing the tag and the lower rear schrode. It's black in color and has built in gas tank and says MARTIN "40" on each side. Any ideas what year and HP this thing might and where He could get a lower rear schroud.

His martin 40 is a twin cylinder 4 hp made by Martin from the late forties into early 50's. George Martin (still alive) designed the motor and sold its manufacture to the National Pressure Cooker company...the makers of Presto Pressure Cookers. Very unique and nice running motors. Way ahead of their time...kinda like Tucker automobiles and suffered the same fate. You can find out what its worth by watching the auctions on ebay...just plug in Martin 40 or 60 in the search box and go to that category. the guy who runs the martin outboard website is a gem to work with. He can help you restore it, which is a fun project if you want to keep it in the family...or sell it.

forgot to add...i consider myself a geezer-in-the-making, not an old-timer. just barely pushin 45...but that's probably fossilized in your book.

Thanks, tim Mc. When I was a kid in the late 40's, my uncle had a Martin 40 and it was slick. Havn't seen another one since then.I didn't know the history of Martin and it was interesting.

Thanks for the help guys. I had heard of These engines before but knew nothing about them. Now I just need to figure out how to get it away from the neighbor and make it my own <g> Tee Hee.<br />Really though, I will feed him the info and I know he wants to restore it as it belonged to an old fishing buddy of his who passed away some years back and was given to him by the guys wife.<br />I told him you guys know all there is to know about outboards and would have the answer.
