I have a Johnson outboard motor. It doesn't have a cowling on it. It's a V-6, I'm quessing a 150? How can I find out what I have? Are there casting numbers on the block or on the housing some place that I can go by? And if so where do I look for them. I just bought this engine and I need to find out 'what' it is in the way of size and year model so that I can purchase a service manual. The guy I bought it from got it in an estate sale and doesn't know what horsepower or what year model it is.
TIA

The model number should be on the casting where it hooks to the boat. Post it and some one will help.

You can also look for the model number being stamped on a freeze plug.

It should be stamped on the port side near the top of the head, looks like a freeze plug as stated and about the size of a quarter..
If its a 6 cylinder it could also be a 175 or larger...:)
