Hi everyone, i need some help...

Hi,
I'am new here and new to boats, i recently purchesed a boat in good condition for $200 its a Glastron GT-150 with an out board (i belive) Lark II 40EvinRude power motor? I'am trying to find some info on the motor, the person we purchased it from said that it hadn't been started in over 2 year's so me and my Dad cleaned it up a bit and went over everything the best we could and on the first try it started right up with no problems. The motor sound's really good he only thing is, when we started it alot of water came out and there was oil mixed in with the water that came out? is this normal? about 10+ gallons of water came out.

If there's anyone that can help me find more info on the motor, like wat type of fuel to use, oil, maint, ect. i would greatly appriciate it

Start by getting the model number; look on the transom bracket for a 1" X 3" plate and/or on the engine block for a convex nickel-sized welch plug.

[Edit] You need to mix your fuel 24:1 or approximately 32 ounces of oil to each six gallons of gasoline. Use 87 or 89 US Octane and TC-W3 oil.

Welcome Ernie. where did the water come out. there is no way a block can hold 10 gallons of water.

also under the front of the motor just above the transom clamps is a plate with number and letters stamp into it. what are these #'s. these are the model and serial #'s, and we can identify exactly what motor you have.

1960 40 hp, you will need the parts and service manual for that motor. available at this link or hunt manuals on ebay http://www.outboardbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=models.main&year=1960&ID=108328

being 1960 your fuel oil mixture is 24:1 instead of 50:1 one quart of TC-W3 outboard motor oil to 6 gallons of 87 octane gas. Walmarts Super Tech TC-W3 is just fine to use.

so this motor does take a Fuel/oil mixture, like a 2 stroke motor?

also the boat is in near perfect condition belive it or not we got it for $200 with the trailer i would say it's 8.5/ 10 condition, we went over the boat really good and we couldnt find any crack's or holes of any kind it sat in a garage with a cover for the past 2 years

I am assuming you mean the water came out the blow hole in the rear of the midsection. It is supposed to. That is cooling water that has gone through the powerhead and done it's job. The hole also serves as an exhaust relief to take the back pressure off the exhaust for better starting and idleing. By your description, I believe your thermostat isn't working. But that's a different subject.

Now, the oil in the water deal: You put oil in the gas. Every drop of oil that you put in there goes through the engine, lubricating all the moving parts as it passes through. Some of it gets burned (smoke) and the rest goes out the exhaust. The exhaust goes out underwater (and the relief hole). So, guess where that oil goes.

1960 24:1 fuel mix 5.3ozs per gallon.Use TCW3 rated oil.87 octane regular unleaded gas. Were you running it in a barrel or on a hose with muffs?Its normal to have excess fuel/oil in the discharged water. Did you change the impeller(waterpump)?If you don't know its age you should change it.
Is it electric shift? Or does it have 2 levers one throttle one shift?

green is the exhaust relief port and tale tell,
red is the cooling water pick up,
Yellow is the exhaust, at speed.

yup thats exactly were it came from, to be honest we havent replaced anything on it yet im trying to find the service/ repair manual for it so i can see were everything is located on the motor..... we were just worried that something was wrong with the motor because of the oil that came ot ....... seeing that that is normal were good on that part...

we just picked up some new plug's/ wires for it and ganna go get the oil and gas... we are planning on taking the motor out and replacing what needs to be replaced

I believe that motor has needle bearings at the crank/connecting rods and, as such, you should be able to run a 50:1 mix. I did it for a long time on a pair of 1958 ERude Bigtwins, after seeking advice from my local OMC/BRP dealer. The guy who gave me that advice was the owner and also a 30+ year OMC tech.

The only caution that I would offer on this, is that I ran nothing but semi-synthetic or fully synthetic two stroke oils. About 99% of that was Pennzoil semi-synthetic. The reason why this is possible is simply because the current, synthetic oils are far superior to the "dyno" oils available in 1960. I'm sure there will be plenty of opinions against this, but I think I can say that I run my motors far more than the average boater and I never had a problem. I still have the motors and will put them on another boat at some point - in fact, one of my boating "wishes," is to find an old Thompson lapstrake to put them on!

As long as it is TC-W3 rated semi-synthetic (blend) or full synthetic. You will have less plug fouling and less carbon build-up.

seeing it has been asleep a while, i would use 24:1, for a tank or 2, then you can go to 50:1.
