New to boating (sort of) and to this site.

...So I grew up boating but just recently bought my first boat. Its a 1976 Starcraft Jupiter with a 1977 Evinrude 70. Got it from a family member who had it a couple of years. Boat leaks a little (have an automatic bilge) and the engine needs a little work (but still runs strong when wide open). I'd really love to tear it all apart and restore it, but with the time and money I have now it would take a while and I wouldn't ever get out on the water! For now I am just going to enjoy it as is...

My reason for joining is that I am starting to realize how much of a lifestyle this is already becoming. There is a lot of work involved and a lot of interesting and FUN moments.... along the way there are many things to share and I certainly foresee a lot of help I will need :)

...so I hope to contribute as much as I can to this great site and addictive sport!

Cheers!

Welcome aboard Freedon... If you do decide to work on your Jupiter sooner than later, there are many good and experienced captains on the forums that know thier stuff :D

Welcome to the Starmada Freedon, what part of Canada are you living in? These are great boats and not real hard to restore, infact the more of them you do the easier it gets, lol.
PS pictures are what get you into the fold!

Great looking boat, project, Freedon. That is a lot of trailer under that boat. I know Petawawa well I was there in the early 70's, military, and then drove through quite a few times in the 80's hauling hanging meat to Ottawa and Mtrl.

Re: Hi Everyone!

Pugetsound & dozerII, funny you both mention the trailer...when I bought the combo I was told the trailer is probably worth more than the boat or motor. Not sure what I could haul with it but it is rated for 2200 lbs. I do know that my Jupiter V sits on it like a toy...

dozerII, glad to met a fellow military man! Have only been here in Pet 5 years but enjoy it quite a bit. Lots to do if you like the outdoors.

Well, hope the weather hold up today so I can get out for a couple runs.

Have a good day all!

Re: Hi Everyone!

Welcome to iboats, freedon. Funny, but I thought the exact same thing when I saw the trailer pic, then I started to wonder, "Wow, do these tinnies weight "that" much?"....lol.
It's ok, you can save the trailer for your own little, "2 foot itis"

emoney, pardon my ignorance but what is "2 foot itis"? I meant to ask earlier...

Re: Hi Everyone!

Once you have say a 16' boat, you start thinking, if only I had a bigger boat, like an 18'. The 2 foot "extra" that you use to justify the expense of buying another boat is "2 foot-itis". It applies all the way up to the 70 & 80 footers too, lol.

Re: Hi Everyone!

And this is how you get afflicted:

"Hey freedon, I really loved my 16' Jupiter but my 18' SS is bigger in every dimension. It's deeper, wider, and of course longer. Yet is still fits in my garage with an inch or so to spare!" :p:p

My desire to garage my boat keeps me from getting 2 foot itis again.

Re: Hi Everyone!

Welcome aboard freedon, that's a nice Jupiter there. It's even got the Jetson's style globe stern light, cool:D

You could probably sell that trailer and buy a smaller one, and fund the entire summer of boating:)
