hibernating my inline 140?????

can someone please tell me in laymans terms how to winterize my 79 merc. inline 140 ob. some talk about gear oil in the lower unit, some talk about "foging carbs" and some talk about de carbing??? i do know that there is a fluid of some sort that you can spray in the carbs to stop any kind of rusting but i don't know what fluid this is and i don't know what else to do for the winter. i just got this boat and motor "1978 glastron carlson 16' with a 140 merc. inline on it" and i would really like to be able to run it next spring. thanks and happy boating!!!

Outbaoards are easy to winterize. Put the correct anount of stabilizer in the fuel, run the girl for 5 minutes on the flusher device. After that spray some fogging oil into the three carbs, and try to stall her. Turn off the ignition and remove the flusher. Let the water drain with motor in vertical position. Now remove vent and fill plugs on gearcase and let gear oil drip out. Buy 2 qts of gear oil and a pump. Gearcase will take about 25oz, but 2 qts makes it easier to refill. Pump it into lower opening, until it comes out top hole, and then install top plug, followed by bottom plug, each with new gaskets. Tighten securely. Pump fresh grease into grease fittings, and grease steering rod.
