6 years ago,, our power company wrote a bill an lobbied heavy on a de-regulation bill..

said that it would cause competion an prices on electric would be cheaper..

but someone asked,, WHAT COMPETION..?? you/delmarva power is the only one in town..

never mind that..PASS THE BILL NOW.. others will come..

WELL,, come may 1st,,

our electric bill will raise 60 %..!!!!!!

an no competion has come yet..

read in newspaper ( which i'm not faithful reader ) that delmarva power has a paymeny plan..

iether pay as it comes due each month.. or pay less bill now an spread it over the next 5 years.. in 5 years the bill would be E-NORMOUS. because of acrued interest..

GET THIS........

everyone is going to be on the 'payment plan'.. the option is to 'pay bill as due'..

in order to have this option,,to pay as comes due,, you must call a toll free number to 'opt out'..

my take is that alot of people ( like me had not been for newspaper ) thinks that the 'option' is the payment plan..

i think the whole mess is devious.. especially this..

my take is if'n ever another power co comes along .. the people on the 'payment plan' wont be able to switch cause they're bound by interest payment to delmarva .. i.e indentured servants..

Maybe they got the inside scoop and they're trying to lock up their customers before the competition gets there.

Get ready, in future how will we service debt associated with the war we are now in? It was sold to us as a 100-200 billion waltz thru Baghdad, and it could be 1-2 Trillion before all is told, and of course the financial losses are so much less important in the grand scheme of things. I can't stress how saddened I am for those innocent who have been injured and killed on both sides.

There are certain things, (even in the U.S. of A.) the bastion of capitalism that need government regulation & need to be kept in country.....
Teddy Roosevelt busted the trusts because too much of a good thing (Read: Capitalism) is bad ....
There has to be a balance....
Unchecked, gravity always ends suddenly....
TR saw that was hurting the country as a whole.....
He was a wise man who stepped up & reserved some of our best places for posterity....
selling your soul to save a couple dollars will always bear bitter fruit ;)
This country on a whole is doing just that.....
The caveat is: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is worthless.....JK

yep
and if ya think prices are high now give it 6-9 months, I can see the economy tanking similar to the 70's and mid 80's due to the sudden artificial rise in energy prices.this time last year I think gas was about 1.30/gallon, today its about 2.80/gal and by june I see 3 and by july 4th 3.5 is easily forseeable.
toss in even a minor hurricane on the coast and 4+/gal is gonna be the norm.
not because its what it costs but because the mega corps have found, after katrina, they can get it. this cost is gonna get passed to the consumer, higher water bills, higher taxes for city, county and state, higher food prices and on and on, the only thing I dont see is a rapid increase in wages.
my fuel bill for my mazda is approcing 70 dollars a week, when the truck was new it took about 8 dollars to fill the tank, I think friday I put 29 dollars worth in it. its an 86 B2000 with 164K on the clock. good pay in 86 for a non-union framer or machinist was in the 10-14/hr range. it still is in that range.
you do the math.

Crab I hear ya. Many years ago when they proposed building the Limerick nuclear generator station they claimed electric cost would go way down in the county. In fact I vaguely remember them claiming by as much as 50%. When it was all said and done the cost went up to help pay for the power plant, and cost have been rising ever since.

Lets face it , the big energy company's basically have us held hostage.

yep we are hostage
look at housing construction, especially in the south.
years ago they had very high ceilings, windows oriented towards the prevailing winds and double opening windows so you could open the tops on the warm side and the bottoms on the cooler side to use convection to ventilate, now all are small with 8ft ceilings designed for central AC.
when the power fails they turn into ovens.
however its a lot cheaper to build the new way as opposed to the old way.

same with gasoline for cars, years ago we used horses for travel, however by the advent of the auto horse waste and the disposal was getting to be a nightmare for large cities.
but as long as energy was cheap there has not been the drive to find even cheaper.

Too bad we're all legal... if we were all illegals, we could protest and the world would be on our side. Instead, we're looked upon as rich white honkies who are supposed to bend over and take it up the @$$.

I empathize with you Crabby. We have some of the highest utility rates in the country up here in Northern Ohio, thanks to the watchful eyes of the Public Utilities Commission. The word NO does not appear in their vocabulary when dealing with the utility companies.

I feel for you guys! Up here in Alberta we have deregulated power and several power providers to chose from.

Here's how it works; your company you choose bills you for power based on the market rate. Then tack on a delivery charge for the grid provider, a local charge if the city provides the local lines and maintenance and a service rate the provider gets for billing you and then gov tax.

By the time it's all done you get the shaft: "the Royal Remington Ramrod up the Rosie red r**tum" -ere (my def of the shaft).
