I hope I got your attention. I didn't want to have to start a thread saying Thanks For Nothing like some other jerk did!! lol. Although every issues I have ever posted has been solved through these forums so I must thank everyone for that!

Now for my problems. I have a 1992 Johnson 90. I have noticed it is hard to start and as pointed out in a previous thread I started, someone said theirs starts right away. I found out my high idle lever doesn't work. I took the remote box apart and when I lifte the lever, everything moves correctly. However, on the engine side, it moves the throttle maybe 1/16" inch. If I open the throttle just a hair by hand the engine starts right away when cold. Anyone know if this is caused by a stretched cable? While in gear the throttle feels like it has a lot of play but does to full throttle(at least what I think is full throttle)... Thank you in advance for all your help!!

Have you tried adjusting the slack out of the cable at the engine? Also look closely at the ring where the throttle cable rides in the control box. I had a set of controls where that ring was worn out. The throttle lever would still work but the fast idle control was useless.

Thanks! I will check the ring closer. I replaced a rubber bushing thing that was on the engine side because it was wore out and it helped a little. Newb question... how can slack be removed? I thought the cables were non adjustable.

Look at the third photo in the supplied link that is the engine end of the cable. The adjuster is the black ring 1 inch or so in diameter. You can turn it out or in. The proper way to install the cable is to make sure the carbs are closed and the engine in neutral. The controls are in neutral with the idle lever all the way down.

Also high idle could be air leak in the fuel system so not to overlook fuel hoses bleed lines and faststart will idle fast till warmed up

thanks. I don't have an issue with the engine idling high. I am referring to the lever that you lift on the control box to give throttle while in neutral. Have heard it called fast idle, high idle, etc. I call it high idle because thats what I call it on my truck and I don't want to confuse myself with 2 terms lol.

thought they were more than that... may just replace both cables because I am pretty sure the originals are still on there. 20 years is probably a good enough life cycles.
