First post coming over from fordf150.net that another brethren suggested since no one over there can answer my question. I come across this killer sale at Walmart on the Quicksilver Premium outdrive oil. So....I went absolutely nuts. Local "stealer" here charges out the wa-zoo for anything quicksilver. Also, seems like you can't order this stuff off of the internet anymore. Overtons doesn't carry it any longer. It was 2 bucks a quart and I, let's say that I won't need to buy anymore outdrive fluid for a LONG time! After some researching and scanning through the owners manual, all information said to use only High Performance, not the Premium. The boat is a Alpha 1 Gen. II 3.0LX, '96
So I'm wondering. Do I really need the High performance oil fluid? Is the only difference between them is that one synthetic and the other is not? I know the benefits of synthetic, as I am a regular on bobistheoilguy and have done numerous oil analysis. Boat is in fresh water, hardly ever sees WOT. Occasional tuber now and then. The boat is babied and I feel I don't need all that extra protection a synthetic will provide and all fluids are changed at the end of the year, regardless of hours. Will the Premium affect the internals of the outdrive as opposed to the high performance? The premium is used for outboard engines. Don't they have basically the same workings as their big brother cousins? Yes, I know, lots of questions but I want to make well informed decision. If I got to change it out, then so mote it be. Anybody want to buy some Quicksilver Premium lube cheap????
thanks.
