I have a 1987 40 hp johnson outboard that started sounding a steady beep from the ignition switch last night out in the harbor. I would kill the motor and wait 5-10 minutes until it only chirped when the key was turned and then i would start it back up. The motor is definately getting water and the only things changed were the fuel which may have had a little less oil than normal and the prop. The last time i had the boat out on the lake this summer i had just put on a new prop. It ran fine without overheating but had no power. So before this trip i replaced the prop with the old one and still lacked the power it had in the past. How much should it cost to have someone else tune it up. I have a manual and i am normaly pretty good at fixing just about anything but it seems everytime i try to adjust anything i end up just causing a different problem like losing reverse which is what started this whole mess. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
