Hey guys how many of you have installed one of these, I'm asking because I'm a little caught up in the wiring.
I'm working with a Ford V8 with engine mounted solenoid.
The instructions suggest taking the pos. starter wire off the switched pole of the solenoid and putting it on the bat. side and then running the small wire (trigger) from the starters solenoid to the switched pole of the engine mounted solenoid.
This configuration is nothing more than simply running the cable directly off the battery pos? Trying to put two pos. cables along with the two other hot feeds off one post of the solenoid doesn't leave much to screw the nut to, this is how I ended up stripping the threads on the solenoid.
Anyhow if your following me, why not just run the starter's pos, feed off the switched side along with the trigger wire, or jump the trigger wire to the starters solenoid pos.
Or just run pos. directly off battery to the starter?

Sorry I probably way overcomplicated it.

What do you mean "Engine mounted" ??? Sure you didn't mean starter mounted? Where the starter solenoid is mounted on the STARTER like a Chevy?

Can you post a picture of your starter?

Re: High torque mini stater wiring

Ok here's some pics. and yes we're dealing with a starter mounted solenoid like a chevy and the Ford solenoid too which is mounted to the shift bracket (engine mounted I called it) right now the big red pos. off the starter runs directly to the bat. side of the ford solenoid.
The little red wire (trigger) off the starter's solenoid goes directly to the switched side of the ford solenoid.
I'm wondering why I couldn't just jumper the little wire off the starter's solenoid right to the starter pos. wire instead of running it clear up to the Ford solenoid, then run the big red pos from the starter to the switched side of the ford solenoid, that way when I start the engine both the big red pos and the trigger will juice up together and the starter will crank.
I'm just trying to avoid having to tie both pos cables to the same post on the ford solenoid because the post can't handle it very well, see what it did to my original solenoid, too much crap on the one post.

Do you have a clear picture of the terminals on the STARTERs solenoid?

Too much grease on the connections to get a clear view but here are my hand drawn plans to eliminate having two cables bolted to the same solenoid post. It will clean up the mess, I just don't understand why the instructions didn't mention this configuration, I think it should work.

I think you are over engineering it. You don't need 2 big battery cables on one terminal on the slave solenoid (your engine solenoid)
Your main battery cable should hook to the main terminal of the starter solenoid. You will then need a small wire up to the slave solenoid....................................
Give me a few, I'll draw a picture.

The main change will be you take the main positive battery cables completely off the small engine mounted solenoid. Hook it directly to the starter. Then just use the engine solenoid as a slave solenoid.

Thank you, thats exactly my thought too, look here's the original instructions that screwed me up in the first place. But I'm still thinking about running the pos. to the starter off the solenoid slave post just so it isn't hot all the time like if it were attached directly to the battery.

.

Why???????
The starter terminal on the starter has been hot on Chevies for ever, with no problems.

Great diagram, I guess I'm still a little shy about that pos. cable being my boat almost caught fire when the cable chaffed against the manifold, that little episode will forever be in my memory. Thanks for spending so much time with me here.

Think BATTERY SWITCH. Then you can shut it off.
