Is there another HIN on boats other then the starboard stern plate? My new to me ‘11 Bayliner 175 BR had a swim platefirm added by the P.O. The installer never reposition the ID plate and my motor vehicle wants a pencil rubbing of it.

Go to a trophy shop and have a new HIN plate made with deep numbers so you can rub it. Then stick it under the swim platform in case a water cop wants to see the HIN.

I agree with GA_Boater on this one. You have 3 options. Locate the 2nd HIN, which is required to be covered on the Hull somewhere, I did a quick google search and couldn't find where Bayliner hides these. Similar to a car, those are required in case the oat is abandoned with the HIN scratched out, authorities can locate the owner. Option 2 is remove the swim platform. Option 3 is have another plate made and attach it to your hull with a good quality 2 part epoxy.

Just to close the loop on this, I fixed my problem. I found a seller on ebay selling HIN plates who would engrave my hull number. The engraving was a little shallow and the pencil rubbing was difficult to get but I managed. I contacted the seller and he stated he could cut it deeper if my rubbing wasn't good enough for the DMV. DMV barely looked at it and my boat is now registered to me.

I went this route because I wanted to attach a plate to the transom and be legal. A drill, couple rivets and some silicone chalk and I'm good to go.

Thanks all.
