Just wondering...if automobiles become historical vehicles after 35 years or what ever age is required, what about boats? Is there such a thing as a historical watercraft?
If not, mabey their should be and mabey Starcraft boats should be the leader as I know of no other manufacturer with as many older still running condition watercraft out there as Starcraft. See how the mind wanders while waiting for the boating weekend !!!

Another candidate for historical watercraft is Alumacraft. I've got a '59 and a '65. Really strong and versatile boats. My "new" boat is the '77 Starcraft.

Re: Historical boats?

I was wondering, is there an actual age (like autos) to become a historical boat? Is there even such a thing? That is the really nice thing about aluminium boats, how many old fiberglass boats do you see? I see far more wood than glass but alum is the way to go.....

Re: Historical boats?

The one thing I found out about historical boats is that insurance companys will not cover them (at least when I talked with my current auto/home agent, which is allstate) once they are over 35yrs old. Doesn't make much sense to me since a tinny is pretty much the same standard throughout the years.

I can't say this is the same for all companys and all boats I haven't done more checking just one call.

My boat registration cost 5 bucks a year because its a antique vessel.

Lonestars need to be on the old as dirt class.

The state of Maine recognizes antique sleds but not boats. After a certain age you can register them for life but your not supposed to use it for recreation.

might want to consider switching to state farm. I have had no issues insuring my '59 alumacraft or my current SC SS. Both of which are less than $30 a year, and both were insured for $5,000.

as for the historical side of things, Im glad they dont with boats as they do with cars! The regulations they put on historical cars makes them flat out pointless to own...
