Hi,

I just bought an immaculate 1970 Pere Marquette 1700. It's really a cool old boat, and as I like cool old stuff (I've got a couple of Studebakers, an AC Volkswagen and a 63 Ford) I had to have it.

Now, since I like old stuff I also like to know the history of old stuff- but, on this boat there seems to be absolutely NONE.

I can find ZERO information on this company- it's as though they never existed. The PO provided the original dealership brochure and dealer invoice, but that's as far as the history goes. If anyone has or can find any info on this thing, I'd be very appreciative.

Re: History of Pere Marquette?

I have (I think) the same boat. It's a 1970 Pere Marquette manufactured in Lundington Michigan. It's on a Gator trailor manufactured in Jacksonville Florida. A friend gave me the boat because it needed alot of work after sitting in back yards since 2002. I do alot of custom fiberglass work on boats. This one needed everything gutted. Floor, stringers, transom... One thing I can alert you to, the fiberglass is thin. And maybe because mine was used with rotting stringers, the whole bottom of the boat was severely stress cracked. There was no foam under the floor originally. I am going to foam it. The bottom of the boat is shaped similar to a boston whaler, Lake boat. I have tried researching it's history and like you.... NOTHING....

Have you learned anything? I did come across a post a while back stating that the company was sold to another. It's been a while and I don't remember any details. E-mail me with any info to . I'd really like to see pictures of your boat. I custom built a 25 gal live well into the floor and am making a newer style windshield with lexan.

I also have a 1970 pere marquette. Its a nice old boat haven't had it in the water yet but I would love to know the history of this thing before I sell it and if they are rare I might just keep it and fix it up? Hopefully someday we will find out about this boat?

We have a beautiful old Pere Marquette 16' I/O. Bought it new sometime around 1970. It is still in great condition. Our biggest problem with it is that it's underpowered; with a 90 HP Renault 4-cyl engine.

I doubt he is still looking for information guys. This thread is pushing 3 years old and the original poster has not returned to the forums since 2010.
