Not sure of the exact species but I couldn't believe it when I saw this at one of my stops last week. Fear of repercussion from accosting a customer kept me quiet though.

Hopefully he cleaned it off before or when he got home.

A comment about "salad," said in a jovial way may have given the guy a clue that he should do something about it.

That would be worth a $500 ticket here

Don't boat in IL where I saw this so I'm not up on their regs but my jaw literally dropped when he pulled in past me.

We've got bass fishermen crying and screaming bloody murder about them spraying to kill that stuff down here... I'm sure they'd change their tune if they owned waterfront property that was choked with that stuff.

I didn't go close enough to get a definite ID but would hate to think it was watermilfoil

So that guy hadn't just pulled his boat out of the water???

He had recently as the plants were still wet, however this was in a convenience store parking lot not at the boat ramp. I'm not real familiar with the area so I'm sure how far he had traveled.

My first stop when I leave the ramp is the closest car wash to spray the boat down. I`ve learned, never leave it til morning.

Anyone else notice the waterline on the transom? Beautiful.

Ticket for what?
Grass and algae all over a trailer is the norm around here this time of year. Its a mess to clean off. A few lakes here are so loaded with it you have to paddle out 100' before you can run the motor at all. You can almost walk on it. I've pulled the trailer out and not been able to see my wheels or tail lights. Thick green carpet like stuff that clings and wraps around everything.
I never heard of anyone getting a ticket for it though. I've spent hours picking the green stuff off my trailer once I get home.
A pressure washer helps but most needs to be pulled off. Leave it till morning and it starts to stink.

Transporting the weeds on the trailer, that is how invasive species get moved from lake to lake - lazy people. You have to get all that crap cleaned off the boat and trailer before you leave the launch.

Re: Hitchhikers - Don't Be This Guy

our local authority is putting grass carp in the lakes combat non-native growth:

Grass carp fight hydrilla
LCRA has released more than 5,000 Asian grass carp into Lake Austin. The sterile grass carp are intended to slow the spread of hydrilla, an invasive aquatic plant that can be a nuisance to boaters and hamper operations at LCRA dams. About half of the grass carp were released near the boat dock in Mary Quinlan Park on July 27 and the rest on July 31. The Asian carp were farm-raised in Arkansas and cost $30,500. Carp releases funded by LCRA, the City of Austin and the Friends of Lake Austin are part of a management effort approved by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Then what are they going to use to kill the carp? The asian carp in the river here are downright dangerous to boaters.

So it's illegal to pull the boat/trailer to your house with with the invasive stuff on it? I don't understand why it would make a difference when towing it home. I can understand about putting a boat into the water with the boat/trailer covered in it, but it seems odd to call it illegal to "transport it".

I'm assuming it is because they don't monitor every launch in every lake, but it is plenty easy to see it hanging off the trailer on the road - same as the plug rules. Plus if you are too lazy to do it at the launch then why assume that it would get done at home?

He probably didn't even know it was there. I don't see any transom straps so the odds are he put it on the trailer and pulled off.

We don't worry so much about that stuff down here, but those tiny little shell-dwellers sure do cling to anything stationary around these parts. And, if you leave them on you'd think they attached themselves with water-proof uber super-glue. Some of them will laugh at a pressure washer.
