Re: Hitting the Race and Billingsgate.
Well, so nobody answered and we had to go find them ourselves.
It was not too bad with three days where we caught our daily quota of stripers first on Billings Gate and later on Race Point. The smallest striper we caught was 34 inches, the biggest 45. This one weighed in on the boat at 36 pounds and much later at Blackbeards at 31.8.It took me close to 40 minutes to get this monster in.The big one on the race was 41 inches and he taught us a few lessons about staying away from lobster pots and ropes. It tangled itself around no less than three lobster pot ropes. There were so many sandeel in the water off the race, that the gulls were just floating and burping while not being able to take flight because of their full bellies. Trolling a herring along Herring Cove down to Woods End produced a blue fish every few minutes and some good laughs while admiring the scene at the beach provided by the good people who have taken Province Town as their domain.
The greatest sight was a giant tuna surfacing about 20 feet from our boat while chasing bluefish across the shallows.
All in all a great three days of fishing.
