Have a rub hole in bottom of portable metal pre-mix tank. Would 5200 or Marine Tex patch it ? Or should I flood it with nitrogen or CO2 and braze/weld/silver solder ? Trying to be simple but safety rules. Thanks in advance.
Since it's a portable tank, you could go to an Auto Parts store and get a gas tank repair kit or as I did, use JB Weld, which worked great on my previous trucks fuel tank leak for years. Or just head to Walmart and pick up a new plastic one and be done with it...
If you were closer, I have a nice Merc metal tank sitting in the garage from my old boat. Kinda hard to use it on a Johnson motor, but I thought I would hang on to it. Never know when it might come in handy..
Portable tanks can build up a lot of pressure in the heat when they aren't vented. I had a small pinhole dump about 2 or 3 gallons in my bilge while the boat was in my backyard. My OMC tank only vents when the gas line is connected. I wouldn't feel safe repairing a small tank given the pressure that can build up.
BTW-Gas does a great job removing carpet glue.
