Hi all,
After running the boat on the muffs the other day I noticed a nice stream of water coming from under the water pump cover. So I took it off to find a nice pea stream of water shooting from the water pump housing. I shut the engine off and go in for a closer look, it looks as if some one has taken a small drill bit (like around 3/32) and bored a hole in my housing. It looks very stock. I have had the boat out on the lake like this and it doesn't run hot or anything. Ive also took the pump apart and all the components look to be in like new shape, other than this hole. I had thought about just covering the hole up with some jb weld, of course after proper preparation. Boat is first in sig, what do yall think?

Curious if you know what an OMC Cobra waterpump looks like.

To the OP...The hole is probably for the vent tube which you obviously don't have on there. Don't ask me why there needs to be a vent hose because I sure don't know.

Bruce I believe you are right. I take it the vent is there just to bleed off excess pressure the system simply doesn't need, or to maybe allow the system to drain off while out of the water? I tried putting my finger over the hole and there wasn't much pressure behind the water, it was easy to seal off. If I recall correctly it never looked like a tube had ever been in place but I may be wrong.

Its been awhile since I had my cobra. Facing the drive is it on the lower left hand side of the housing?

Yep, somewhere along the line I guess someone had broken it off. Is there a check valve in the vent tube that may not allow water out?

No check valve. Not really sure what the tube is for actually.

No check valve, they all have a barb fitting there that attaches to a hose in the upper gear housing...

If water coming out the pee hole you are good to go. I have 86 cobra just changed my impeller and the water will squrt out 10ft. from the pee hole.

Yes it is normal.
If it has the right angle barb there is a drain hole of sorts that you can attach a hose to barb and put it in the drain hole to route the water down out of the bottom of the drive instead of out of the pump cover.
