Holes in Lexan Door

I'm refurbishing my 1986 SunRunner 220SB. The sliding cabin door is, I believe, Lexan, black, transluscent, and about 1/2" thick. It presently has a knotted length of rope through a 1" hole acting as a handle for both inside and outside use. I want to use 10" shower safety wall grips/handles for the door handles, one inside and one outside. How can I fill in the 1" diameter hole which presently holds the rope? I can remove the door if I have to, but it"s a PITA to do, so I'd rather fill in the hole where it is, puttling tape or cardboard on one side to act as a form. Any advice? Any advice on using or not using the shower safety grips as handles?

You could probably fill it with an epoxy resin, like the kind people use to make costume jewelery and whatnot -- tinted to match.. You would have to remove the door and lay it flat against something for this though... and I can't guarantee it'd work, but it should, though you'd still probably be able to see where the hole originally was.

What if you use a handle that can make use of the existing hole?

just put a plate behind the new handles to cover it.

You can probably see if you can find some black tinted lexan scraps at the hardware store and cut a plug then epoxy it in. Will definetly be visable still, but might not be bad if the lexan is close to the same color. I havent seen the tinted stuff around, but i know you can grab the clear stuff cheap.

Maybe use the 1" hole as one of the new handle mounting holes? If you get the shower handles with the right base plate diameter, you won't see the 1" hole when mounted.
