holes in lower bellows

Just looked at a horizon 180 1991 4.3 and noticed the lower bellows are cut, but it looks like its suposed to be like that as they are all cut the same, might be showing my ignorance but only used to mercs, and anyone know what this boat would weigh?

Normal, remember the whole exhaust system is under water up to the waterline at rest. I believe the oval cuts you saw are to relieve back pressure.
