Hi, Philby.

Every state has several places that fit what you ask for. Do you want mountains or seashore? Wilderness or theme parks? Fresh or salt water? Tropical or mild weather?

Narrow it down a bit for us. Then post in the Vacations and Trips Forum and we can begin to fight over what is the best place for you to visit. :)

jb

lakes and mountains, no theme parks, good warm weather ( if you can arrange that one I'll pay for you to come to England ! ) , wilderness with five star restraunts.

I have four children aged from 16 to 5. A good old fashioned family holiday with water and relaxation.

So not Deleware then. !

thanks

Where's the vacations forum ?

Hi, Philby.

I agree that the Nevada/Arizona lakes would be nice. Scenery is spectacular and you can spend a week without seeing the same spot twice. Weather is WARM in the Summer (100+ degrees, F). Bugs are not too much of a problem.

If your idea of warm weather is more like 70-80F, look into Rainey Lake houseboat rentals on the Minnesota/Ontario border. More like wilderness, no mountains, fishing is awesome, take plenty of bug repellent.

Western North Carolina has some very nice resort lakes in the mountains and a more predictable climate.

Good luck. :)

BTW. Find the Vacations and Trips Forum by clicking on iBoats Bulletin Board at the top of the page.

Philby,

You'll have let us Limeys know what time of the year you can come over.

Some areas are too hot or too cold for your needs, depending on time of the year.

In most areas , July is probably the hotest month of the year, I would shoot for August, and I have to recomend North Carolina for obvious reasons. Both West and East are great :) :)

That's the perfect time to come to Colorado! Warm days and cool evenings.

We have some the the best mountains in the USA and athough we are not a "lake" state, we have many beautiful lakes(some with boat rentals) and miles of premier trout fishing streams.

Fine dining is available in cities both large and small, which are usually just a stones throw away from prime wilderness areas.

Colorado is also relatively close to wonderful national parks like Grand Canyon and Yellowstone park, the likes of which no foreign visitor should miss.

Can you tell I like it here?

You can probably get a non-stop from London to Denver, which is near the center of the state.

Get a rental car and get going. The state is easy to get around in.

Even better, rent a motorhome and really see the area. I have heard that many German tourists do just this.

Have fun wherever you go!

Northern Minnesota would be a nice place. Rainey Lake in particular. You can rent house boats with a fun boat and just remove yourself from everyone and thing around. Get a travel brochure from MN state and check it out.

I agree with Chuck M, I don't think you can go wrong with heading up to Northern Minnesota.

Head up this way. You'd never regret boating the midcoast of Maine. There are many fijords and bays as well as lighthouses, beaches, lobster, crab, clam...Check out this link. There are many others as well. Come to Maine

Phil,

With all of these great places to visit, you'd better rent that motorhome!

Philby,

Having lived in Minnesota and Arizona-both are nice. Minnesota has to be in July or August only. Even at that, weather can be tricky. JB's right about the bugs.

Don't let the Arizona/Nevada heat scare you off. It really is a dry heat. I haven't seen a mosquito or black fly in four years-here anyway. On the water, it can feel actually cool because of the evaporation rate. Las Vegas (Lake Mead) offers just about any kind of Five Star dining you could want-not to mention great entertainment available.

If you are interested in renting a motorhome (many Europeans do) I would recommed: Cruise America. www.cruiseamerica.com. They are wonderful people with nice equipment and they are available in many US cities. They will arrange all transportation for you.

Re: Holiday, boat and good food

been all over the country ,myself.. i do like maine & the new england states.. but i do agree with jb & d j about lake powell it's breath taking... but not much in the way of the other catagories.. i do suggest LAKE TAHOE california/nevada border for that time of year,,,, it's everything you asked for ... wilderness to gambling & nightclub acts & shows.. IT'S THE ANSWER.
