Holly Carb.

I have a 1990 four Winns freedom with a 4.3 V6 cobra engine with a Holly 2 barrel carb. When I give it full throttle, the engine hesitates for about 2-3 seconds then accelerates. I set the points gap at .019" and the timing at 2 degrees. If the engine is a high output 4.3, the timing should be at 6 degrees. I don't know if the engine is a high output or not, with a 2 barrel I figured it was a low output engine.

After the engine was warm, I had someone else operate the throttle. I held the choke shut, the motor did not hesitate! Is there an adjustment for the amount of gas that the carb. shoots from the upper jets down on to the butterfly. On the arm that operates the accelerator pump there is a bolt with a spring. If I adjust the height of this bolt, will the amount of gas change??

Accelerator pumps on Holleys are for the most part adjustable. You may be able to reset the cam and lever arangement to facilitate faster discharge. There were also different discharge rate springs, and diaphrams. Most Holley carb parts can be found at a performance automotive store. Some parts shoulde be only replaced with marine approved type

JBloom,

Your accelerator pump, in the carburetor, is not functioning properly. The rubber on these frequently dries out. Some people call them a "power valve".

Best to rebuild the carb. The part you're after comes in the kit.

Re: Holly Carb.

Accelerator pumps and power valves are two different things.Power valve controls the amount of fuel at the power valves rated vacuum point.Accelerator pump gives a shot of fuel when you give it some throttle. You have a lean condition so your power valve is not the problem.Try starting the engine and first spray some carb cleaner around the base of the carb.If idle picks up when you do this you have a vacuum leak. Also spray around intake.Could be many other things but this is where I would start.Good Luck, wheels

I just mentioned that SOME people call them that. It's not the same part true. That's why I said "accel. pump" first.

Don't assume the power rating of a motor by the physical size of a carburetor. Should be a tag on it that a parts store may be able to help with id. Holley does make large cfm 2 barrel carbs.
