i have been working on a 7.5 hp 1955 evinrude and today i started it. Started with only a few pulls! So she's not running great and i have more work to do but at least i know it will start - and that is encouraging. I put 2oz/gallon of seafoam in the gas tank (which is mixed 1/24) and sprayed some in the carb too. I ran it in a trash can and it had good water spary from the lower unit and the head did not get too hot. I did not put it in gear in that little trash can.
now the problems-
The throttle advance is wrong. I think i put the ignition plate (thing with the coils) on incorrectly because the cam follower only goes half-way down the cam. if that makes any sense - centered the 2 lines on the ignition plate withe the carb and bolted the cam on - to clarify: when the throttle is turned all the way down the cam follower is still in the middle of the cam - so the engine does not slow down enough or stop that way. how do i fix this?
then i need to synchronize it: any advice?
is that enough sea foam or should i use more concentrated to really clean the carbon?
