Holy Crap-Won't crank after new Fuel Pump

Hi Guys, just replaced my fuel pump (http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=222997) and while I was waiting for answer on the pulse limiter, I decided to put it back together. Did so, had no problems. Put on the muffs, won't turn over!!

I checked the battery voltage (good), took off pos battery cables, re-hooked them. Checked my battery cables going into the engine, no problems. I can hear the choke working when I push the key in, but that's it! I checked all wires around where I was working to see if I popped one out, looked good. The only wires dealing with the fuel pump are the 4 wire connector, which was disconnected before anyways (maybe deals with VRO?), so I tried plugging it in, still nothing. Having a bad day.

I know this sounds stupid, but is there anything I need to do after installing a new fuel pump in regards to electrical?

thanks.

Check the in-line 20amp fuse, and your neutral switch.

Thanks for the reply, could you tell me where those would be? Don't know if these pics will help or not.

Thanks again.

Ok, found my 20 amp fuse, back behind the starter? Fuse looks fine.

Where is the Neutral Switch located? Which control arm are you referencing? Theres a chance I know, but I may not know the terminology. I do not have an emergency kill switch, at least that I know of.

Thanks for the continued support guys.

Oh, ok, no I do not have a lanyard but I did mess with the controls, and when I went to reverse, it barely moved. What could I have done during the fuel pump install to do this?

Do you have the remote control in the neutral position when you try to start it? It must be for it to crank. Do not force the shifter into gear. Make sure someone is turning the prop slowly when you shift with the engine off..Not sure what you could have done to the shifter or cables when you did the pump. Did you disconnect the shift cable at the engine for any reason?

No, I didn't disconnect anything. Yes, I am in the neutral position. I just triple checked everything because I was sure it was something simple and probably is, but I can't find anything.

I know am getting power back to the engine, my tilt and trim is working fine as well.

While turning the key in the start position try moving the handle around a little....

With a 1996 engine, I would certainly think there is a kill switch, even though the lanyard may not be there. Look on the control for anywhere that it might hook up...

Ok, I know I am getting power to my ignition (key), but it is acting like the ignition isn't working at all, other than my gas gauge going on with the key turned. I tried jiggling it a bit during starting, nothing.

Thanks so muck zeke. I will check that this morning here. When I push the key in, the choke does engage, not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Also, if my key is turned on, what should I have for voltage at the starter?

Thanks again.

Thanks zeke, I have a meter, should I be seeing zero there if checking ohms? Will there be any volts, if the key is just turned, not started?
