I was in home depot this week and I was looking for the wd40.. I found the wd but I was very surprised to see they carry outboard oil. I was most surprised of the price $12 per gallon. Has anyone used this stuff? I pay double for the oil I run. That makes me think maybe this oil is crap.. It kills me when I dish out around $100 to fill both my oil tanks.. I am not sure if all home depots caryy the oil or if they just started carrying it. Over the last 10 years I have been in home depot close to twice a week and have never noticed it before the other day..

Home Depot Marine Oil?!? HUH???

Is it TCW-3? It might actually be made by a reputable company and just relabeled as Home Cheapo brand.

If it's TCW-3 then you should be good to go. Most likely same or similar to the Wal Mart brand that I have been using. No issues with that for me.

it is tcw-3.. it just seems too cheap compared to anything else I can find...$3-$4 is one thing but $10 cheaper makes you think..

No thanks.

Learned my lesson. Normally never run anything in this motor but Merc Premium Plus and Evinrude XD-50. I experimented a couple of weeks ago and filled up the tank with 3 gallons of Pennzoil Premium Plus to fish a 3 day tournament.

Never again. It smoked badly and it just didn't want to idle worth a darn. Going back to my old oil.

That is what I was thinking.. I checked at another home depot and they did not have it. I will try to get the name of it but i dont think I will try it unless I get positive post about it(doubt it)
thanks

Re: home depots outboard oil?

you should be fine with an older model engine. its the new models that are picky about what you feed them from my experience. i've used all kinds of oils on both my engines, '98 yamaha and '88 force, the yamaha doesn't take a liking to knock off oils or anything less than 93 octane. but the force will choke down anything without skipping a beat. being that i'm paying for clemson tuition, the cheaper the better!
