homemade t&t relay box help needed

I made a working replacement box for my T&T that i added to my 60hp johnson 1990

I also added a remote t&t swith which will be fitted to the wheel

Now all this worked fine in the garage, I wired it all up and then to the motor and it worked perfect. Today I installed it in the boat and gremlins must have been about as all i get when pressing up is a click and a audible "beep or horn " on the down.

The power is coming from the fuse box with a 20 amp fuse, to the relay box under the dash. The switch and box are being powered from this supply , then motor is wired to the box , switch to the box and it is grounded back to the negative bus bar.

I am suffering from "electrical block " at present and I can't figure out where my prob is.

Any help appreciated.

Well there is only one possibility. Right ? Well 2.

The wiring in the boat was & still is the original problem.

Or. Unlikely. You made a new wiring mistake. With the old wiring.

Keep plugging away.

Well I checked out the boat wiring and everything fined, so the only other logical explanation would be the "homemade" t&t relay box....... surely nothing could be wrong with the self made "homemade" t&t relay box????

YES....!!!!!!! one ground wire not crimped in right had pulled out of it's connector :facepalm:

One re crimp later and with the whole lot back together and re installed we are good to go. Everything works as it should.

Imagine a homemade botch job could actually be the cause of all my troubles..

Buy a GREAT crimper / lugger. I bought a electrician grade.

I wouldn't use any of these in this picture.

Also, don't use poor quality connectors. I always buy the Ancor ones. That and a high quality racheting crimper and you will never have a problem.

Actually the top 2 are terrible. But the bottom one is outstanding because it has a dimpler that definately compresses the wire. It does # 10 to # 22 AWG. Has to be 30 years old. Still snug. Ideal always makes great crimpers / luggers.

It is capable of more than enough leverage to do #10 crimps.

Personaly, I take off the factory plastic, crimp, then solder the connection and heat shrink the result. But sometimes I think I just enjoy hunching over some wires until my old back hurts.

Better off not soldering a rigidly held connector. Will cause the wire to break right off at the connector if there is vibration.
