Hey folks.

I have a 1983 Honda 4-stroke 10hp longshaft as a kicker on my boat. The engine runs well, but I have been thinking about controls. Is there at least a throttle control out there (relatively cheap new or used) that I can use on this older engine? My boat is a 1998 Crestliner 1750 Sportfish. I suppose that I would still have to manually place it in gear/neutral/reverse. Any input would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Honda 10hp 4 stroke outboard throttle control question

Been a while since you posted. There is a remote control kit for these motors that Honda makes, runs in the low $50's. It is a bracket and a replacement shifter that connects to a cable instead of the hand operated one that is stock. The Honda service manual has a several page section on installing and adjusting it as well.

I am still in research stage wanting to find a small motor control that I can put in my boat for the same purpose. Trying to find both which controls will work, and selecting one that is as small as possible, has been tough. The reason isn't anything in particular, just didn't want to clutter up the helm area on my boat with a big control unit. I might look into the one Teleflex makes for sailboats. Still searching around though.
