I have recently acquired a Honda 15 from the mid 90"s and am thinking it is the original impellor....Is there any step by step instructions on how to do it ...I have done my Mercruiser alpha one gen 2 but I had some good guidance from the other forum...any help would be appreciated ...regards,Bob:)

Re: Honda 15 impellor change

As any other outboard impeller change, Mercruiser is different story...

Don't know that particular model, A matter to drop lower unit, disconnect gear shaft linkage wether it's located internal or external on tail, unbolt impeller housing, change impeller, new must be rotated clockwise, don't forget to secure shaft key, align water pipe to water pump, reverse procedure and that's it. Get yourself a parts manual as a reference, or take pics while disassembling parts to place back on properly.

Re: Honda 15 impellor change

I don't know the 15, but my 8 (BF8A) involves removing the clevis pin that holds the top of the shift shaft to the shift lever. Ideally, you then unscrew the fitting threaded to the top of the shift shaft, but that is hard to do unless you remove various kit off the head. I left that fitting on, and after you unbolt the lower unit, you can pull it down enough to access the impeller housing, etc. You can't pull it all the way off unless you remove that fitting. The rest is pretty obvious and pretty easy.

I did buy a factory service manual, which I recommend doing. It isn't great, but much better than not having one.

Re: Honda 15 impellor change

Pretty straight forward, Put in reverse, about 1/2 down the leg (shaft) loosen the small jam nut and unscrew the longer nut until the shift lever (shaft separates). Mark or take a picture of the nuts so you know where to put them back to on installation/ maybe count the turns on the jam nut and put it back there then screw the longer nut to that position. If it has been in salt water, the nuts nuts, etc, may be corroded, so use BLASTER PB to loosen. There are 4 10 mm bolts and they are brittle so DO NOT FORCE as the will break and are very hard to drill out. been there and done that.

Re: Honda 15 impellor change

I just bought a '98 9.9 and it didn't pump water. I found the service pages on the Honda website, tore it down, and the impeller was toast. Very simple job.

Re: Honda 15 impellor change

I just installed the new impeller in my 9.9 and still no pumping. I cleaned everything I could see and followed the manual , but ...... Hope you have better luck. Bringing it to the dealer.
