I am going to purchase a new inflatable, and motor this spring. Ease of mounting and dismounting the motor are more important than speed of the boat. I am very interested in the 2hp air-cooled Honda outboard because of it's low weight, but have never actually seen one operate. Are they loud enough to be annoying? Does anyone have any experience with this motor? Thanks

Even though you plan on using the motor on an inflatable, I suggest you ask a mod to move your thread to either the Honda section or the General Outboard section. You're more likely to get an answer there since many of the outboard gurus never spend any time in the inflatable section. Just a thought. Good luck and welcome to iboats.

I have one and I've used it on a 9' Zodiak Zoom and my 13' Mark IV and I love it........

I really like the centrifugal clutch......

The shearpins break easy though so make sure you always carry a needlenose pliers with you.......

They are not that loud........

Thanks for the reply. I thought that Honda would be a quality product, but I read one review that mentioned it being louder because of the air cooling. I just didn't want to be the talk of the marina every time I fired it up.

Thanks for the suggestion, as soon as I figure out how to do that, I will.

The motor comes with a couple spare shearpins and cotter key.

The prop is plastic and the clutch isn't bullit proof so they designed it to shear real easily.

You just remove the cotter key that holds the prop on and slide the prop off. The old pin will be in two or three pieces. Just remove the pieces and replace with new one and reassemble the prop.

I have the same motor that I've used for three years and love it. It starts first pull every time. I use it on an Achilles 9-1/2' inflatable and have had five people in the boat and it goes fine (no water skiing but better than rowing). Easy to carry. Ironically I've never broken a shear pin (although the plastic prop gets a little chewed up). Great motor - I'd buy one again in a second.

I'm in So Cal so I'm always running through kelp...... That shears the pin almost every time..... easy to fix though and I would also buy this same motor again........
