Honda 4 Wheeler ?

My daughter just bought, yesterday, a 1986 Honda 200 SX 4 wheeler.
Said when went to look at it, that it started up and ran good, plenty of power, for a 200, but got it home and started it up and it ran for about 15 minutes and died.
Tried starting it back and nothing.
Would start by pull rope and idle fine, but when you give it gas, it spits, sputters and backfires and will not go.
They put new plug, wire and coil to no avail.
Any ideas?

as silly as it may sound,is the fuel petcock on?might be that the seller turned it off after the demo.

I will have them check.
Nothing is silly about a used item, that's for sure.

But if that was true, wouldn't after a while it would not start at all?
They say it starts with pull start but not electric start.
I don't know, waiting on them to call me so I can have them check some of these things.

Re: Honda 4 Wheeler ?

my dad has one of those... are you guys familiar with 4 wheelers? It has to be in neutral for the electric start to be used... maybe it could be rope started in gear (I'm not sure). I agree it sounds like a choke left on or something.

It is also possible that there is so little fuel left in the tank that the seller put the petcock on Reserve for the demo, but when you turn it to "on" the fuel level is already below that.

Just my thoughts... good luck... BTW, keep an eye on the chain tensioning adjusting bolts, and be careful not to break them off. They seemed kind of flimsy on my Dad's and we had to replace them within a month or so of him getting it because they broke.

It was the electronic control box bad I guess.
Some fellow told them that's what it was and they went and got one and put on it and it's doing fine now.

Start with the basic's:

Compression
Spark
Fuel

Could be any of them. Thats an oldie there! 1986 is the last year they made 3 wheelers and the first year they made 4 wheelers. That model has the same motor as the Honda 1986 3 wheelers.

Bullet proof motor.

Could be clogged jets in carb... I would start there.

Thanks. As far as I know, after the box they put on, it's doing good, no more problems.
