Honda 50 alarm

The buzzer alarm of my Honda 50 has started to activate although both the oil and temp sensors appear to be working. Water comes out of the pee hole and oil level is fine. The alarm only goes off once the motor is in gear and the throttle is moved past a slow troll speed position. The alarm sounds whether the engine is running or not; the key simply needs to be on.

I have checked across the sensors and they appear to open and close the circuit as they should. Have checked to see if the movement of the throttle control "pinches" a wire in the control housing or at motor but nothing appears out of order

Could it simply be a bad buzzer? Why would it only come on when throttle is engaged?

Any help or suggestions for diagnosis would be appreciated.

Could this be related to the buzzer that alarms when engine is tilted up too high?

I wasn't aware that there is a seperate alarm/sensor for tilt but rather thought that alarm going off with high tilt was associated with a drop in oil pressure.

If there is a seperate sensor, could you describe where it is and would it only go off if there is some activation of throttle beyound troll speed.

thanks

Re: Honda 50 alarm

The warning buzzer for oil pressure will sound when the green oil pressure light goes off. On a Honda a green lite on is a good thing.
Subsequently the engine protection system will limit engine speed.
A red lite that comes on indicates overheating. the buzzer sounds and the engine protection will activate also.
I'm only telling you this that it might help in diagnosing. Check to see what the warning lites do as well as the engine protection system when the alarm sounds.
This will isolate the circuit and sensors you need to concentrate on.

Thanks for this info.

The green stays green and the red overheating light does not come on when buzzer sounds. The motor is still able to operate at full throttle, but the buzzer comes on when the throttle is opened up more than a slow troll speed.

The sensors were also checked under operating conditions with a meter to confirm they were open or closed when they should be.

Re: Honda 50 alarm

I have narrowed the problem down to the tilt sensor. One of the circuit's resistance is at the low end of the acceptable range. The alarm does not sound when the sensor is disconnected.

Can the tilt sensor be adjusted or repaired for the resistance or does it need to be replaced? Can I leave it disconnected for the time being without damaging other circuits or control modules, etc.?

Re: Honda 50 alarm

I had same problem on my 1999 honda 50
i traced the tilt/trim alarm wire back to the motor
and unplugged it, and that stopped the alarm.
not sure what the benefit of having that alarm is
i guess it sounds when the motor is running and the trim
is too far up or down.

Thanks

I have done the same thing and it seems to work fine.

Not sure that I will replace the part as time and cost permits since it doesn't seem to perform a necessary function.
