My Honda 5HP (2000) starts great, runs great for 15-20 minutes, then just stops. I open it up, turn the drain knob on the carb, close it, starts right up. Then we do it again.

Any ideas?
hello
it cant break. its a 4 stroke.
hahaha well almost. mmmm make 15 min trips only???
well if draining the carb works I would check all the lines and tank for water. is the water pump still working> any alarms?
good luck and keep posting
About two months after I got my 2000 Honda BF5 I had the same problem. It drove me nuts! Even though the old one looked fine and only had about 18 hours actual running time on it, I changed the plug (used a new NGK BPR5ES) and it's run fine since.

Two other folks I fish with have the same motor and experienced pretty much the same thing, while six folks I know have gotten over 100 hours running on the original plug with no problems.

Wish I'd found out before I went through the hoop jumping drill trying to diagnose what was wrong that changing out a $3.00 sparkplug would solve my problem.
you definately need to vent the tank, but also it sounds like flooding - if you drain the bowl and it restarts the needle and seat may not be seating properly.
clean out the carb and remove the float and needle to make sure there is no debris inside the carb - i had the same problem and cleaned it all out - problem went away.
