Model BF75L Long Shaft 1992 - How to repair shifter

Fails to shift into Forward or Reverse - No gear grinding sound any longer

Shifting does absolutely nothing. (Thin Air)

Where should I start on this thing and are there any links to manuals online for this outboard?

What Happened: Was just about home from the first day of sailing on beautiful Lake Tahoe when I went into reverse to drop off a friend at his dock.

Went to go back into forward and nothing. I am assuming the shift rod / shaft / gear went. Everything on the top side looks good. Its down in the lower unit where things appear to have gone wrong!

I have no idea where to start and how hard or easy the fix might be.

I saw parts here: (BF75L Parts)

If you are convinced that all is correct at the top end of that shift rod,you will now be going into the gearcase for inspection.Probably more practical to just look for a used gearcase at that point.

Fixed :)

Well after pulling the engine and getting it on the work bench it turns out it was a simple sheer pin failure.

It failed under no strain at all, just going into forward at idle...

I thought it was a major melt down of the shifter assembly.

Back to sailing on the 4th :) Got lucky this time!!!

Thank you HONDON for your comments. That was my next step.
