To make a long story a little shorter:

I just rebuild a Honda 75 hp modelyear 1996 - new pistons etc. but i need a new/used cylinderhead compl.

I have tried everywhere to find a used one - but havent been able to locate any.

Can any of your fellow boaters in USA help me?
Do you know of anyone who haver a used Cylinder head for sale? could you ask your local dealer?

The engine is like new - but i bourght it cheap from the original owner - the engine had been drowned and had run with water in the oil - one valve stuck and the valvehead was knocked off by the piston - the engine ran with this loose valve inside cyl 4 for app 3 hours - the cylinderhead was badly damaged and the cylinder needed oversize pistons and the crankshaft needed grind/oversize bearings .

enn,

I'm not so sure that this head is not the same as a Civic automobile.

If you have it in hand, take it to a machine shop that carries these rebuilt heads (Honda cars) and make a comparison.

Re: Honda 75 hp

Well - i have often heard that the 75/90 hp should be made from Civic engine parts - but it is not true.

I am a marine engineer and have had several Civic cars and been rebuilding a few.

What i can tell for shure about the 75/90 hp models are:

The first series in 1996 (up to serial nr app 2500) had a civic crankshaft and conrods from a civic - all other parts where not similar to the Civic engines.

The block and cyl.head is for shure not at all familiar with the civic engine.

I have checked it all out and have original workshop/parts manuals for both the OB and the Civic car engine.

The 75 hp i have been rebuilding are among the first 2500 made - so i could get OS bearings for it (this is not possible to get as original Honda Marine parts) - i checked to see if the Civic pistons would fit - but they are quite different from the Car pistons - and I had to buy original Honda Marine Pistons in OS.
The crankshaft are surface hardened - and to grind requires that you get it re hardned - all this have been done by a local machine shop that are used to work on Honda engines.

The cyl head is damaged beyond repair - and i am desperatly trying to find a used one.

Well, it was a guess.

I think you're going to have trouble finding a used one. There are not that many out there to begin with, and very few have failed.

Well it is worth a try - a new cost app 1500 USD over here - and you have to ad springs valves etc. so around 3000 USD is probably the price for a complete head.

I can add that the motor was originaly owned by a man on Greenland - he used it for transport betwean the small cities near Søndre Strømfjord- it is a wery remote place - so he had to make it back with the engine (and did) but it took the life out of the engine.
I am quite impressed that the engine ran 3 hours on that water/oil emulsion - and that it came back on 3 cylinders.
