My '04 Honda BF8 seems to be running a bit hot. When idling or running, the engine block is too hot to touch for more than 5 seconds. The telltale stream is strong and the impeller seems good, lots of water is coming out. The stream is hardly any warmer than the water in the tank. Do these motors just run at this temperature or does a thermostat need replacing? Thanks!

Re: Honda 8 HP running hot?

You will have to keep in mind that this is a four stroke engine and the oil in the oilpan carries away alot of heat. You have'nt mentioned if this is an 8a or 8d.If it is an 8d you have overheat protection that will shut the engine down in that circumstance.Feelling the engine on the side of the head as we used to to with 2 strokes is useless.Go for the tstat cover.
