Yesterday (Saturday), after a day of fishing, my '98 Honda BF 130A would not start.
I fly fish so I'll set up up current of structure or flats, kill the engine, fish while drifting, and restart once I pass over the structure. I have done this for five years without incident. Yesterday was no different. From 9 to 5, with a couple of breaks, everything worked well. At 5 I turned the motor off, drifted, went to restart and all I heard a clicking sound from the engine. The fish finder, vhf, radio and nav lights all worked. The tilt motor barely worked. There was enough juice to get the prop up and out of the water.
I turned off all electronics, and waited 30 minutes, hoping the battery would settle and have enough for one more start. No luck. Just the clicking. When this happens on my car it is time to get a new battery.
I checked all of the wires into the battery terminals, and everything was fine. No corrosion, and all wires were snug on the terminals held in place by ss nuts.
Sea Tow arrived and we tried to jump the battery. First with an outboard pack. Next with a bigger diesel engine pack. Nothing. Not even a cough. The clicking was still there.
At the end of the day I disconnected the battery and tested it. Fully charged.
All wires into the engine appear to be fine.
The engine has 380 hours on it. This is my first electrical problem with the engine since buying the boat used in 2004.
Any thoughts?
