Hi

I just got a used 2009 Honda BF2D aircooled 2 HP outboard with the centrifugal clutch. I'm new to this engine and relatively new to outboards in general. I read the owners manual about maintenance, but have a few questions. Please forgive me if I ask too many questions.

- At the end of last summer/fall, the previous owner ran the gas out of the outboard till it cut off. It appears he left the fuel shutoff switch "on", and there is a very small bit of gas left in the integrated gas tank. The gas is obviously old and varnished looking. Should I unscrew the gas tank and dump this stuff out? I think it may not be good to run this through the carb. Of course, this means that there may be some in the fuel line and carb too.

- I'll try to drain any old gas out of the carb...If I need to, is the carb hard to get off the engine and clean? I've done it on an old gamefisher engine using CRC marine carb cleaner and an air compressor or soaking in seafoam.

- A few of the bolt heads underneath the engine area, as well as the carb drain screw are starting to rust. What should I put on these to help...anti corrosion inhibitor? grease? It appears the underside of the engine could use some of this too.

- The manual says use Honda Marine waterproof grease on a number of listed areas in the manual...I assume any marine waterproof grease will work. So far I only see one grease fitting...I assume that I just smear grease on the other areas listed (throttle arm, choke arm, steering arm, tilt lever, swivel case, steering friction bolt, thrust receiver, etc)?

- I'll be changing the motor oil and the gear oil as well...probably the spark plug too. Any need to change the fuel filter (hard to get at) or the air filter?

- It says use "silicone spary lubricant" on the controls...what are the controls that it refers to? Would white lithium spray grease work just as well?

Any other tips you may give would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!
