I bought a 98 Honda Civic EX. The dome light will not come on when you open the door. It will come on when you move the switch, so I know the bulb is good. I have been told that because It does not have the factory radio, the dome/courtesy light will not work.

Is this true or is there a way to bypass or correct the problem?

Thanks for the Help!

Does it have a three position switch?

Yes, three position switch.

1. Off-completely.

2. On-only with doors open. Usually the middle position.

3. On-always.

either the switch on the door post, or the switch on the light itself, try fiddling with both switch's while the door is open.
check to see if it works when you open the passenger door if it does it's the door post switch, on the driver side,

I think I would get a multimeter and start looking for breaks in a wire or bad switches. You probably are not going to know w/o testing.
