I have a BF9.9A serial #BABS 1001800…without a cowling. It seems to be a 1987 and is essentially the same15hp of its time.
This engine is a dark graphite gray and not bright silver like the modern day Hondas, BUT from pictures I’ve seen, it appears that Honda started using the bright silver color around this time (late 80’s- early 90’s). The cowling is fairly “square” and not bulbous or rounded like other generations.
I’m just trying to broaden my search for a replacement cowling, but I’m finding it hard to verify what will actually fit.
Attached are a couple reference pictures. The white cowling engine is representative of what I believe my cowling is supposed to look like, considering that is the only graphite gray Honda outboard picture I could turn up. The silver one is only a couple years newer and physically “appears” to be the same, with a bright silver paint job and modern graphics.
Can anyone verify/shine some light on possible compatibility of Honda cowlings?
