I have made several posts on here as most of you know. I don't have much time so I will give this to you rather quickly. Being in the market for a 2008
Lund a-14 utility-v bottom row boat,I have looked over sevrela motors for powering this little boat. I want a reliable four stroke motor for this boat, and
would like your opinions of Honda's BF15 15 HP four stroke short shaft motor.
I don't care much for Mercury as alot of you know, too. Right now,Honda is at
the top followed by Yamaha, and maybe Tohatsu.

honda is a great motor. i would buy the one that has the service center close to where you live or where you boat. i don't see a lot of honda service centers.

Tasha is right. My dad purchased a HONDA BF 40 already mounted on the back of his new Bennington Pontoon. He did not touch the motor in over nine seasons; however, when he tried to find a dealer by his home, there were not any Honda dealers within a few hours of his house. I had to bring up some maintenance items from Florida to service his engine. Luckily, the motor runs like a sewing machine.

I don't know much about Tohatsu motors but you pretty much can't go wrong with either Honda or Yamaha. I think TD made a good point as well. Even if you are mechanically inclined, fooing with a motor that is still in warranty is not a good idea. Buy what you can get serviced conveniently, especially in regard to anything that would be considered warranty work.

Honda would be my first choice, (I am picking up my boat tomorrow w/new 225 hp), then Yamaha. The rest of clan are all Tohatsu motors rebadged. Kind of like buying an MTD lawn mower.

I may be luckier than some of you, then, because I have several Yamaha and
Honda dealers within an hour's drive from my home, and one maybe an extra
ten or fifteen minutes away over in Culver,In. Though I am moving to Bluffton,In. very shortly, still those Yamaha and Honda dealers will still be within an hour and a half drive at the most. I was going to see about buying my Lund from a dealer up in Michigan, but with fuel prices as they are,I will go
no further than Culver Marina in Culver,In. They will put a Yamaha on a Lund
A-14 for me,..or a Honda,whichever motor I choose(most likely Yamaha since
they are a little cheaper than Honda). One thing is for sure,...I will have far better fuel economy with that Yamaha four stroke over the old Merc two stroke I had before.

I agree with you there. There is more room for discounts on the Hondas than some dealers will admit, so some haggling might save some bucks if you really want a Honda. Like I said both are excellent motors.

You will not go wrong with a Honda. Then again same can be said for the others too. I used a 1998 model 15hp Honda before. Very smooth and quite.
Look for a good dealer and go with his motor. Shopping dealers is probably more important in the boating business.
