One of my cousins changed out his starter on his 13y old outboard, and forgot to unhook the battery, uhoh. Shorted out the electronics? Cranks over but cannot start. He bought a new outboard and gave the old one to my dad so we want to get this thing running soon to be able run on 18g of fuel all day long riding the rivers and sloughs where we live.
I'm thinking he blew out the coils underneath the flywheel. Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Check for a spark Marv. There are neat little neon things you can buy which plug between sparkplug and Ht cap. It will let you see spark "live so to speak.

Or............you can do it the old fashioned way You have a few coils so it may have blown one of them........which one? Then again there is the very slight chance that problem is coincidental and it just may be something else.
