Replaced the tach which was not working and rehooked all wire correctly and it is still not receiving and pulse signal. The pulse wire is grey and I loose it in the harness trace. Some one told me that some times the wire goes into the shifter assembly before reaching the tach. I opened up shifter assembly and did not see any grey wire. (see attached photos) If I can not locate the wire in the harness what is my next choice of options. Can I run a new wire directly from the tach to (where ?). Also what is this white square 2 wired unit in the shifter assembly for?

that white square thing looks to be the warning horn . I would find the main harness (big black harness comes from motor) before ign. switch and look for grey wire your problem could be there. I believe it was boobie that gave a site for wiring diagrams for different boats in another post.

Re: Hooking up a tach

Went back and double checked my wire hook and found out I had connected a ground wire to the pulse wire. I kick myself for not double checking- When I installed the new tach it was getting dark and I miss read the wire colors --that was all it was. Point to myself DOUBLE-CHECK every time. I could have done some thing worse. I forgot my number one quote-If you can't find the time to do it right the first time then where will you find the time to do it over?
