I have a '80 115 mercury inline 6 w/ solid state ingition that was hooked to a Quicksilver controller. Today the controller broke (round gear inside broke in half). So I'm trying to hook it up to an older Merc Contol unit that I had on a '76 65 hp mercury. The quicksilver had a push to choke ignition and the MerControl has a separate push button choke. I don't have a diagram to reference as to the pin outs to solder the control wire to the ignition switch. The MerContol wiring harness is different that the 7 pin round one that is on my 115 so I have to solder the current harness to the MerControl unit. Also the MerContol unit has a neutal switch that the quicksilver controller didn't have. How do I hook up this neutral switch.

I recently did something sort of like this. My suggestion would be to order a manual, I know everyone says Seloc is junk and they are right, but for this application they have the pin outs of the control boxes so that you can cross reference the wire colors.

I do know that there were wires that I just clipped off and did not use, but i can not think of them off hand.

Make sure when you are making these connections that you use marine grade heat shrink on all connections, and on the wire bundle it self I went to an electrical supply house locally and bought some big weather resistant heat shrink. This stuff is big and heavy but it works great, just make sure that you have a small torch to shrink it.

Thanks, I'll order up the manual... does the manual also have the pin outs for the controller ignition key? The Mercontrol unit that I'm switching to was hooked up to a '76 65hp motor, looks like the wires are different colors.

yes there is a pin out for about 3 or 4 different boxes with all components.
