Maybe Moderator can move me if I am. Anyway I want to be safe. I'm retrofitting Electric Start to 1971 18 HP Evinrude. They didn't start installing till after '77 I think. Anyway does anybody have part number for a compatible solenoid or can I just go to Auto parts store, and use any solenoid? Thanks for all help

Get a marine solenoid as they are different from the automotive.

Facts-----Electric start was available ( dealer installed kit ) for these since the 1958 models.------1977 and newer used a different bracket and starter.-------OMC used the same solenoid for about 40 years on all electric start models.----Should be easy to find the correct one new and used.
