Re: hose connection
rooster, under the front of the motor between the transom clamp, should be a plate with model and serial number. post those and i can tell you exactly what you have. by the color it is a 1950's. i love them. you cannot run the motor on the single hose tank, it requires a 2 line pressure tank, the tank has a 3 prong connector. clip to hold it, gas and air. the tank has a primer button on top, that you pump up, this forces gas to the carborator, the engine does not have a conventional fuel pump. the engine forces air into the tank, which forces gas to the carb. it is possible to convert some of the engine to a conventional fuel pump, i just did it to my 1958 35 hp Johnson. but you need to know you have a viable motor before, doing anything.
you need to check the compression and spark on the motor, also you can, mix fuel/oil 24/1 and put in a spray or squeeze bottle and spray into the carbs to see if it will run. the lower leg of the engine has to be submerged in water 1/2 up, in order not to damage the lower unit. i use a large trash can for this with a substancial mount or the back of the boat.
get back with the info i asked for, and do the compression and spark check.
if it a viable engine we will get it revived.
