What would cause the + terminal on a 12 volt battery used for a trolling motor to get so hot you can't touch it?

There is nothing else hooked up except the wires for the inboard charger.

Or the connection has far too much resistance. Take it off, clean it carefully, reinstall and coat with grease.

What size trolling motor/wire? Is it the original wiring that came with the trolling motor? If not what gauge is it? Are your terminals all tight and clean?

If the wire is not getting hot also, the connection at the battery is either loose or corroded. Clean it thoroughly and tighten it up. If the wire, along its length, is getting very hot, the problem is elsewhere.

Good Luck!
