Started my 74 mercruiser 302 for the first time. After about 15 min I noticed the manifolds getting hot, not super hot but you couldn't leave your hand on it for more than 4 sec.Port side got hot first (original manifold)then strb side got hot soon after(recently replaced because it was cracked). The temp guage never got over 135 which seems fine.motor was running at idle and never more than 10 sec at 2000rpm.I believe the manifolds weren't getting enough water through the garden hose and maybey that's why it was hot.Should I be concerned? or should I start checking for blockage or as long as the temp was good should I not worry! The manifolds will be hot to the touch and more so on a hose. If it was in the water it would be a bot cooler, and one will always be a bit hotter then the other.

Note: don't run a motor above 1500 rom on a hose, the hose cannot supply enough water.

I figured the temp at 135 was no need to worry, but man do i worry. The water coming out of the exhaust got me thinking about (not enough water),also the diameter of the garden hose compared to the hose going to the pump is alot smaller. Thanks for the info.I feel better about it.

I took the pump out this winter and was going to change the impeller but found it was in great shape, also took the hoses off from the pump to thermostat??? figuring I would find pieces from the last impeller but all hoses were clear.
