Why is it that I don't see lots of advertisers for hot rod or hop up after market parts for outboard engines? What about after market ignitions, high voltage coil packs, high compression pistons, heavy duty high speed rods, big carbs, etc?

I would guess that with the righ parts, these engines could turn another 1k rpm and boost the HP ratings too. But I don't see the advertisers for these kind of parts.

Why is that? The best guess I can come up with is that reliability is more important than maximum performance. If you want to go fast, get a bigger motor, right?

Mark

Re: Hot Rod Outboard Engines...

There are quite a few hi-pro parts and dealers. Check out issues of Hot Boats and Bass and Walleye Boats.

The EPA has outlawed all changes to motors produced after 1997, unless for "race use" only.
