So after having a hesitation issue I decided to throw parts at it after reading about all the points concerns.

I landed up buying the hot spark kit for my 470 mercruiser.

Has anyone else tried this before? I already ordered it but wont install it if its a known problem :D

I searched.. Didnt find much besides someone saying to have a spare handy..

Never tried one in an I/O, so can't comment on longevity or reliability in that application. That said, put a setup in an old points type, multi-cylinder outboard that has run now for excess of five years. It wasn't the 'Hot Spark' brand, but the setup is the same. Simple, not much to it, reasonbly priced. As you said, keep a spare.

I'm using the module and their coil in my Volvo 4 cylinder and have had no problems. The ones that say to carry a spare also tell you to carry a spare set of points if that's what you're using. Guess there's nothing wrong with having spare parts on board.

Heck, look at the case of Bungalo Bill - "in case of accident, he allways took his mom."
