Hot start procedure?

When starting my 9.9 after running hard for a while, it's been pretty grumpy a couple times after it sits for 20-30 minutes.

What's the starting procedure for this? Leave the choke in, turn throttle to start, or idle?

Chris, a 9.9 that's is properly tuned and has gas should start right up without pulling the choke. The throttle should be somewhere between start and shift.

Tell us about how you get it going....do you have to pull the choke? Does it take a lot of pulls on the rope? Have you checked the primer bulb or tried squeezing it to make sure fuel was at the carb? When was the last time the carb was over hauled?

Oh, everything is new on this motor. I spent over $300 to get it running.

After it sits for say, 10 minutes I can give a light pull on the cord and it fires right up. But after it sits during fishing time it can get grumpy and give my arm a workout. No matter what combination of levers and knobs, it still won't catch, then magically something lines up right and it'll sing again.

I just figured there was a hot-start procedure vs the cold one with the choke out.

Chris....when they are hard to start like that, it's "usually" fuel related. Have you pumped the primer bulb up firm? What is the low speed needle setting?
